In the early '90s, PGP encryption gave ordinary people the power to protect their words. It should have been a revolution. Instead, it was branded as suspicious, too complex, too strange. The tool worked, but the story failed.

This is the pattern. Tor gets renamed as "the dark web." RSS gets forgotten. Napster gets crushed. Again and again, freedom tech builds tools that could reshape the world, only to watch them be silenced, misnamed, or erased.

That's the monster. Not the state. Not the corporations. But the silence, the forgetting, the fog of misunderstanding.
